Linkages Between Climate Science + Recommendations Limit Consensus

In formulating policy recommendations, keep in mind that “solution aversion” appears to be real. And in the case of climate change, scientists and policy advocates harm the facts (scientific consensus) by positioning them in close proximity to their prescription (value-based).

The Dot Earth blog does a good job laying out recent thinking on the issue, including WaPo’s Chris Mooney and the paper from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology that summarized the research.
