Power Women – Forbes.com

The glass ceiling is taking a beating, even if there is more work to do.  Consider this gallery of women in power, starting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and including all the leaders you know (Hillary, Dilma, Lagarde) and others that you may not have though about (Jill Abramson, Sheryl Sandberg, Irene Rosenfeld) and even Lady GaGa (puh-leese).

  1. It is amazing to see such influential women made into a list, and published. The sadness behind such a list is found in a recent article in the NYtimes http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/30/nyregion/women-employed-by-vito-j-lopez-describe-sexually-hostile-office.html?pagewanted=all. Though women are making great strides, as seen by this post, there are still things lacking. 1. In this article, only pictures of the women are included, whereas the face of the perpetrator is left out. 2. The fact that many women had experienced it, but could not speak up. Though men and women have significant differences, it is about time that they were treated (and felt empowered to treat themselves) with the same dignity that men are treated with.

It can start with you. You next essay/research paper/fb status update/blog post, use a “he or she.” And you will be surprised how much those extra five letters means to the woman-who has always been considered a appendage of the man.
